With almost two decades since my last visit to Kentucky Kingdom it is
no surprises that some of the older rides that I remember have been replaced with newer
ones.
Having visited Silver Dollar City and Dollywood it was nice walking
around Kentucky Kingdom and seeing some of the little things that
Herschend has added to make the park look like one of theirs.
Herschend is great at using rides to tell stories but they are also
great at adding little theming elements to give their parks the desired
mood.
There are a few thrill rides in the front third of the park (one of the
fair's entrance roads bisects Kentucky Kingdom) but most of the rides up
front are geared for little ones.
King Louie, who was the original mascot for Kentucky Kingdom, now has
his own playland for kids. It is nice but not surprising that
Herschend has kept the parks history alive by keeping King Louie as an
integral part of the park.
Going back to when Ed Heart brought Kentucky Kingdom back to life
in 2014 he needed something big and new to help bring guests back to the
park. That big and new ride was Lightning Run.
