It's time for some palm trees, movie magic and a little version of
Tinsel Town in Central Florida.
Of course I'm talking about Disney's Hollywood Studios; formerly the
Disney-MGM Studios.
Disney's Hollywood Studios was the third theme park added to Walt Disney
World when it opened in 1989. It opened as a partnership with MGM Studios and it
opened as an actual working studios with the amusement park as a part of
the complex. My guess is the studios was built as a response to
Universal who was in the process of building Universal Studios Orlando
that opened in 1990. Disney, instead of just sitting on idly by
letting potential customers go to a movie studios theme park that was
not theirs built this in order to keep those customers on property.
You enter the park into a Hollywood Boulevard straight out of Tinsel
Town's golden era of glitz and glamour of the 1930's and 1940's.
As this is Disney every building is themed to the hilt and as I'm a fan
of the art deco architecture of the era I love this part of Disney's
Hollywood Studios.
