The Skyrish Rollercoaster at Hersheypark, Hershey, Pennsylvania

Skyrush's lift is more like a launch.

It seems like one second you are in the station and the next you are getting shot over the lift hill's crest plunging down to the ground.

Half of coaster design is engineering but to make a great ride the other half is psychology.

Where psychology comes into play is if you really want to terrify a rider you have to mess with what they expect to happen and throw in some surprises to knock them off their base.

Most coasters start out with a nice relaxing lift which is a slow relaxed experience where you have time to look around , have a deep breath and look around at what is coming.  Skyrush does not give you that opportunity.  You are expecting a nice ride up and before you know it BOOM you are over the top and all hell bas broken loose.
