Boss goes under the knife and loses 420ft.

Boss goes under the knife and loses 420ft.
The infamous double helix on Boss is no more. The helix is being removed and replaced with an 180 degree banked turn. This change will take Boss from 5,051 ft. long to 4,631 ft.

Well as long as it doesn't rattle the shit out of you it will be a better ride.
So the big question is...with such a radical section of track loss do we count it as a new credit?

This is SFSL. They went the cheap route.

I was told that if they were to do a RMC they would have to axe about 1000 feet of track as SF wouldn't give them the funds for a complete redo. This way the ride hopefully gets better (or at least less painful) and maybe one of these decades the park will put in another coaster.

I stumbled upon a picture of the new turn. It looks like it should still produce some good laterals and the airtime on the double up should be stronger than before.

Its going to be interesting to see it and feel it in person. I wonder if it will be ready to operate by opening weekend?

With the speed not getting robbed by all of the shuffling through the helix there is going to be a nice pop of air coming up into the brakes.
Honestly this is going to drastically improve the ride and make it worlds more rideable. Plus I am going to count it as a new credit as shortening it some 420 feet counts as a new ride experience.

Man that is flying up into the brake run. There is going to be some fantastic air on those hills. I see an improved ride.TNT wrote: ↑Fri Mar 30, 2018 6:23 pmA video of Boss testing has made its way to YouTube.

Any word on when it will open?

Too bad the alteration didn't come with better trains as well
Re: Boss goes under the knife and loses 420ft.
No word yet. They still have to get the brakes dialled in, load test the trains, and have the state inspection. My guess is sometime in April assuming no unforseen circumstances. At the lastest May.Paul Drabek wrote: ↑Sun Apr 01, 2018 7:12 pmMan that is flying up into the brake run. There is going to be some fantastic air on those hills. I know...I would love to see how amazing that ride would be with Timberliners, Millennium Flyers or even a PTC.
