Chat Function

Post by ahoffman50 » Sun Mar 05, 2006 3:35 pm

I would like to see a chat function. Sometimes I see people on here and would just like to say hi, without making an actual post. I think Paul is working on it, but has some issues with it messing the rest of the site up.

I have looked into a chat function and yes it is on the list of things that I'd like to add. The first thing we are working on is the file attatchment modification so that people can upload their No Limits tracks and RCT parks.

Have Fun

Well, how about an IRC channel? I've been to multiple IRC rooms that allow you to host and download files, as you'd like to do. I don't know how to set up that system, but making a basic channel is super easy.

I know there are several mods that let you access IRC channels through the forums but I'm thinking about basically hosting my own chat server that is tied into the forums. You'd access it through a icon up on the menu box (the one where you login).

Have Fun

I might go to chat every once in a while. Every time I have gone to the Thrillnetwork Coasterchat - all it is is CoasterCameron and company making fun of PKI Delirium... :? Maybe the discussion for a Negative G chat could be more mature and coaster based.

I know its not really the same, but how about using PMs?

If you want to use PMs that heavily - you might as well just post it in the off topic section of the forums. Just sometimes its cool to have live real time chat.

The closest thing you could do with the forums - to a chat - is a power posting session. Everybody agrees to be on the forums at the same time - and you post and reply in "real time".

Well, I'll look into the different methods of having a chat room and see what I can accomplish. There are several different ways it can be done, I'm sure. :-)

While I love the chat feature, I think that it could be integrated more into the site. I am thinking somwhere along the lines of a sidebar or something. I do not know how to do this, but I think it could be done. :D
