Avatar sizes

Post by Mental Rose » Tue Feb 28, 2006 8:38 pm

We've already had it come up, so here's the policy on avatars - we prefer you to keep your avatars to 100 pixles by 100 pixels at the most. Anything larger interferes with the layout of the forum and is irritating to other users. A larger image is permissable in the signature, as long is it does not stretch out the page. Paul and I will make final decisions if an image becomes a problem.

Thank You

Yeah someone had an avatar on here that was like 400 pixels wide! I think it was that smurf guy.

I like my avatars 100x100. Now I do have a really funny avatar that I am sure Paul would find the humor in - but its animated and is like 80k. So its not really that dialup friendly if anyone on here uses dialup.

I posted this in a chat thread, but I tried to change my avatar to a 100x100 picture but the profile page gave me an error that said avatars can only be 80x80.

Just thought you might like to know. I didn't think this would be any problem: Image

No, that picture would not be a problem. It appears that the avatar upload was set by default to 80x80 - that has been changed. You should be able to upload it now. In the future, though, if you have problems uploading an avatar the board also allows you to remote link to an image hosted elsewhere on the web, which is how the larger avatar managed to sneak in before.

Is this avatar OK? It is 100x100 - but like 120k. It is hosted on my site. I didn't know if anybody had Dial Up or what.

I just spent like a half hour making this hot Stargate SG-1 avatar - but if 120k is too big I can just go back to one of my Vortex control panel buttons.

Avatar size is fine, and since I've got DSL it loads up fine for me. If you're worried about the filesize, you might try reducing quality a bit, but since it's hosted on your web space, that's completely up to you.

I'm not worried about bandwidth - I have 200 GB a month. I was just wondering if it would be an inconvenience for anybody - but really even at 56k 120KB isn't that bad.
