Updating the -G Forums

Post by Paul Drabek » Thu Feb 23, 2012 9:56 am

Hey everyone;

I'm working on updating the -G Forums today so things might seem a little wonky. Don't worry I'm working on it right now.

I have updated the forum software to the latest version. Next I'm updating our chat software (hopefully no more lag or double posts), then updating the gallery, then adding a better catchpa anti spam filter for new members and then getting the calendar back up and running. So I'll be busy for a while today.

Have Fun

It looks like the old advanced quick reply doesn't work anymore so I turned on the simple quick reply. The only difference is you have to click over to the full reply to upload files and do smiles.

Ugh so I've pounded my head on the wall and here's where we're at. I finally have a clean install of the latest version of PHPBB (the forum software). None of the modifications are installed like the chat program. I'm going to do that tomorrow. Part of the problem was the new installations of the old mods weren't running at all so hopefully with everything clean they'll work this time. I'm also looking at a simpler visual design for the forum that will look cool but not be so busy and easier to read. So tomorrow I'll be coding...send all the prayers my way that you can as I'll need them.

Hey everyone. As you can see I popped up a new visual style for the forum. It's a lot simpler and hopefully easier on the eyes. I still have some tweaking to do with the layout (I might make it so that user info is on the left instead of right when you're reading a post like it used to be) but I kind of like it. As this is a community I want to know what you think of how it looks. So what do you think?

I look forward to hearing from you.

I was thinking of making the blue text lighter but in general what do you think, especially between this and the old layout?

I was just thinking since I'm updating all the software to get it running better I might as well switch styles. In PHPBB (the forum software) there are prosilver based styles and subsilver based styles. Everything works on prosilver (like this style) while subsilver (the old style) is a bit more of a pain to work with and not all of the modifications will work on it.

Ugh. I went back to the old layout. I might switch sometime in the future but this is working and I have enough fish to fry getting the chat and gallery programs up and running so I can enjoy some of my weekend.
