Six flags St. Louis Coaster questions

Postby bradhig » Wed Jul 12, 2006 10:50 pm

I recall one year they mofied the Screaming Eagle and called it New Faster Screaming Eagle. What did they do to it I read somewhere they took out something called a double up I don't know what that is and replaced the trains.

Also what happened to the Rail Blazer stand up coaster after it was taken out? Did it get sent to another park?

I don't know about the first question, and I have never been to the park, but I'm fairly sure the Rail Blazer is still there, it's just back to it's original River King Mine Train form. Hold on...yup, I just checked RCDB.COM and that is the case. I believe a woman was thrown and killed from one of the stand up trains back in 1984, and that was pretty much the end of it being a stand up ride. Here you go:

Read the blurb on the bottom.

The second mine train that used to sit right next to the current one was removed to put Ninja in and was sold to Dollywood who then removed it for the Tennessee Tornado and sold it to Magic Springs where it now resides as Big Bad John.

Years ago the new park attraction was a "Faster Screamin' Eagle." The original PTC trains had 3 seats to each car. I remember reading in the paper that year that the new cars had fewer wheels which meant less friction and therefore greater speed.

My memory seems to think the final hills after the turnaround used to be a bit different. There is a fairly long flat stretch immediately after the turnaround which may hav contained a double up. I just don't remember.

I remember hearing that the Eagle's turns were flat and thus had some monster laterals and that there was a double down or a little speed hill after the turnaround that were removed at some point. There's an aerial photo of it in The Increadible Scream Machine which looks like there's a speed hill there rather than a double down.

Paul, you're correct, The Eagle's turnaround was flat. The wheels made a loud screeching sound until the banking was added. The banking was also part of the makeover for the 1990 season.
