Something B&M Is Working On

Postby Paul Drabek » Sun Nov 10, 2013 8:02 pm

Hey everyone;

While at SDC the other day we got into chatting with the amazing Wildfire crew and I asked what these new red things were on a couple of seats on each train:

It seems that B&M has decided to make a harness so that those riders who are amputees can ride their rides. They have a 5 point harness similar to a fall harness that will attach to these hard points and go between the riders legs across their waist and over both shoulders (by going over the harness) securing people with a minimum of three inch appendages.

They are testing this out at Dollywood on Wild Eagle right now and the crew at Wildfire is expecting it next season (although the implementation of this is not official, just hearsay from the crew). I am thrilled to see a coaster manufacturer go out of their way to make their rides accessible to amputees and hopefully for other special needs riders like my nephew as it would be awesome to be able to have a ride with him someday.

Have fun!

Paul

I guess this idea started out at Busch Gardens as they have harnesses so those with legs amputated below the knee can ride according to this blog post:

It sounds like this version is just an evolution of the concept with this version for those with three inch appendages.
