Line jumpers

Enthusiast coaster & amusement park chatter about whatever. If it's not about coasters & parks, it'll go to the garbage file. Keep it on-topic and flame-retardant, please.

Line jumpers

Post by CptBeeble » Sat Aug 17, 2013 2:58 pm

On my recent trip, I encountered two blatant issues with line jumpers...

The first was at Silverwood in line for Timber Terror. I saw three boys (8-13 or so) tell their dad (who was several people ahead of me in line) that they were going to go ride Aftershock. They left.
About a half hour later, I see them cutting through the line so I stopped them and asked where they were going. They said that their dad was up there and they needed to get ahead. I told them that I had already seen them tell him they were going to ride Aftershock and that he can't save their place in line. "You need to go to the end of the line and wait." One of them got snarky with me and said, "Who the hell are YOU?" and I held up my phone and said, "The rules are simple. I've got security on speed dial. You can go to the back of the line or I can make a call and you can get tossed out of the park, take your pick." They backed down and left, and I heard a nearby guy in line tell his daughter, "See? Always follow the rules, you never know if someone in authority might be watching." to which I said, "Me? I'm not even from here, I have no idea what I'd have done if the little punk called my bluff."

The second was at Playland in Vancouver. In line for the Coaster, a guy who was obviously a bit challenged entered at the back of the long line and simply pushed his way though. No "excuse me" or anything, just plowed right through. I thought he'd cut under the chains at the ends to make it shorter, but he navigated every single switchback. People would look pissed, then see him and assume that there was some group chaperone further up in line somewhere and everyone let him go by. I watched him and he went all the way up into the station, pushed through the people on the platform and managed to get next up for the front seat, where he got on the next train (see photo). Those of us who were watching him (which was a LOT of people by then) were just sitting there slack-jawed. Dude just pushed right up through a 45min queue into the front seat and nobody stopped him. I wondered if he knew that nobody would challenge him because he was mentally handicapped...
So a few hours later, I was in line again and I see the guy doing the same thing as before. This time I know he's not trying to meet anyone, so when he got to me I said, "hey, wait a minute. Everyone is waiting in line, you need to wait too." He said, "OK" and waited out the rest of the line behind me - about half an hour. Honestly, I think it's a simple matter of him not understanding what the rules are, as he had no problem waiting with everyone else after it was pointed out to him.
A guy in front of me in line said, "he did that on the other coaster, too. Right up to the front."

If the second guy had put up a stink, I'd have let him go ahead - but I'd have shown his pic to the ride ops and alerted them what he was doing and let them deal with it (or not) in their own way.

In a separate but related topic regarding that picture, LOOK AT THOSE BEAUTIFUL TRAINS!!!
Flanged wheels, not-ratcheting lap bar (it's either up or down and "down" is as high as is shown in that pic), upholstered seats, funky zero car on the front, no seat dividers... swoon.

My last encounter with line jumpers was at WOF. I did have security called the people were escorted out of the park. Don't tread on me! I know the park's bartender. Josh

Thankfully I have not experienced line jumpers, and thank you TC10k for using mentally handicapped; my mother works as one on one with them so that was nice to hear.
