Screachin' Eagle slated for demolition

Enthusiast coaster & amusement park chatter about whatever. If it's not about coasters & parks, it'll go to the garbage file. Keep it on-topic and flame-retardant, please.

Screachin' Eagle slated for demolition

Post by Sora » Tue Dec 07, 2010 3:17 am

According to the website below, it was reported at the ACE con in Ohio that the Screachin' Eagle at LeSourdesville has a date with the wrecking ball. :(

I agree. It has always been on my to-do list. Shame I did not know of its existence in the late 90s when I made my first trip to Cincinnati .

I'm lucky as I got many rides on it. It was a wonderful airtime machine. A true classic. This is sad news.

I wonder who finally got through to Couch for this tidbot of information. From what I understood, as soon as someone identified himself as part of ACE or said "rollercoaster" to him, he just stopped all contact.

I can't believe he wasn't interested in making a couple thousand bucks by opening the gates for a weekend and letting a bunch of us come work to dismantle it.

<here's the spot where I would call him a couple very offcolor names, but I'll refrain. Instead I'll say truck and nut.>

I can't say I blame him for cutting communications regarding the coaster, after what he went through after the 2002 season and the abuse I'm sure he's taken from the enthusiast community since then. If there's one thing I've learned over the past year, it's that enthusiasts as a whole are not a kind group.

However, I do have to say a few things: One, I can find no further information about nor confirmation of this rumor. I have asked a handful of people, including individuals who were at the party it was supposedly reported at, and they had not heard anything similar. Two, I do know, from people in the area, that there is construction work occurring on site, though whether it is positive or negative as far as the Eagle's future is concerned is unknown. So who knows.

  Ok I'm a little late on this, but that just plain sucks. Was it the coaster the greatest wooden ? No, but as Waterboy said it had some great airtime. My first ride was the last year it was open, and I was hoping that maybe I'd get to ride it again someday. It would seem this is a sad lot for many loved older coasters.

I'm still not sure I believe this rumor. No one has heard another word, including the ACE regional reps for southern Ohio. However, it has been said recently (on LeSourdesville Lake's Facebook) that Mr Couch is planning to reopen a part of the park as a private park, specifically with the intention of it being a retreat for church groups but possible opening up to other groups as well, with the rides that are remaining. He did not clarify whether it would include the Eagle or not.
