Best TV theme music

Post by CptBeeble » Fri Aug 30, 2013 5:39 pm

Music = without words, instrumental
There's a different thread for songs.

What's the best instrumental TV theme?

Rules: [1] it must have been written for the show (the William Tell Overture was already a thing before Lone Ranger, so it's out)
[2] no words! Themes with lyrics (such as M*A*S*H and Star Trek) are ok here as long as you never heard it sung on the show

Super-helpful if you can provide a link so we can hear it.

A few come to mind:
Night Court (for the bass line)
What's Happening (for the funk)
Hill Street Blues
The Jeffersons

"Movin' on Up" (from the Jeffersons) would actually go in the TV song thread

^ There is a TV song thread? And you called me on posting a theme song in the wrong thread? This is epic! I bow to your thread wisdom. Not to mention your TV music knowledge. Please take it as a compliment as I crown you TV theme song nerd of Neg-G.

Night Court had a cool bass line, true dat... but OMFG, the bass line on the Barney Miller theme!

Not just the intro, but the bass player seriously tries to take the guitar player's solo thunder away, then gets even crazier when he's competing against a whole trumpet section.

After Don Cornelious moved Soul Train from Chicago to LA, Rerun was one of the Soul Train dancers.

First time forum reader/replier.
Anyways, Themes are rare. I believe it was written for the show but I'm not positive. It's before my time but have gotten into it in the past year. The opening doesn't seem like it should be on a TV show. (At least to me) It seems like it should have been somewhere in a Disney park. I'm picturing Epcot or maybe the Magic Kingdom. Probably not Disneyland.

Okay, okay, these may be the theme for video games, but they still rock! I love this series!

Barney Miller was a couple bow-chica-wow wow's away from 70's porno music.
