our first trip to cedar point and kings island

Post by CoasterJedi » Sun Mar 11, 2012 4:12 pm

As long as no disasters happen, we will be going to Spring Con this year and our first trip to Cedar Point and hitting King's Island for the first time on our way back. Since we have never been there I thought I'd ask for suggestions on some super cheap motels (65 and under range), resturants and anything in the area that you think is a can't-miss.

Priceline name your own price is your friend. Just find a location that you're interested in and then just half the median price for the star level and more than half the time we get it.

Also around Kings Island score some Skyline Chili as it rocks and visit Jungle Jims as it's the most amazing grocery store (plus it has KI's old Momorail.

You'll love both parks and make sure you don't miss the Cedar Downs racing carousel at Cedar Point and take a walk on the beach.

Have Fun

Also check to see if theres any rooms left at Cedar Point with the deal ACE is getting. Don't forget, all registered adults are getting a $30 gift card!

^ This. Stay on point if you can as it will save you from having to drive on and off point. And if you stay somewhere else I suggest finding somewhere on lower 250 as every hotel/ motel near the point is pretty run down and dirty.

We stayed at the Econo Lodge South (On Milan Rd) last year and were actually very impressed with it. There's also the Days Inn Milan/Cedar Point South that's rather nice.

We will be at Cedar Point for Spring Conference too! :D

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I'd like to stay on site but I don't think that is quite in our budget. We need to go pretty cheap. We are not too picky about hotels, as long as I won't get a disease or robbed in the parking lot, I'm good!

Have fun on your trip. My advice ... And this may be useless if you're there for Con, but here it is anyway,

KI: They have a spot outside the front gate where ACErs can meet for a pre-opening walkback to the Beast and you get the first rides of the day. There's a tiny bronze plaque in the cement marking the spot. Check to see if this is still valid and have your ACE card ready to show, or just run to D-Back. Also, they have a full service bar near Adventure Express, a kick ass mine ride, second only to TNT. Mention me at the bar and you will make new friends, or they may escort you to the exit.

CP: If you stay off property, which I always do, enter the park from the marina entrance. Get there just before opening and you'll be fine. From the parking lot, head left around the Blue Streak and you will find it. Smaller lines and much closer to MF and MAV than the main gate. Trust me on this one.

Have Fun.

Yes...you're half the way to the back of the park when they open the gates and you can quickly get on TTD and have a ride in and get back in line before it fills up.

Greg isn't that true of you at many parks/bars across the nation?

According to park policy, ACE members are still included in the morning ERT session for Beast and Diamondback because the Ruth Voss Memorial Walkback no longer exists. However, 9 times out of 10, the security personnel at the ERT gate don't know this, so be prepared to argue or have to wait for management. When you enter the front gates, stay to the right of the royal fountains and you will see the "Early entry here" gate blocking off International Street. Proceed to there (you'll have to push through a crowd of GP that doesn't get that they're in the way) and show your ACE card to the employees there. Usually it will be one security guard and one admissions associate.

Kat - I looked up the hotel you suggested and it seems good to us. Do you have any suggestions for anywhere near KI

Sorry it took so long to respond to this. I would check the Super 8 right across the street. I stayed there the night before opening day in 09 (when we had to be at the park at 6:30 am for the Diamondback First Rider Auction seats) and it was clean and a decent place to stay. Also, I've heard the Kings Island Resort right across the street is usually a good price - it's an older hotel and no longer the official partner hotel since Great Wolf was built. If neither of those are reasonable, there are quite a number of hotels on Fields Ertel Rd and Mason-Montgomery Rd, which is the next exit south of the park. We've stayed at the Comfort Inn a number of times and it's very nice, but it may be out of your price range.
