-G 2012 Road Trip: Let's Invade Canada!

Post by Paul Drabek » Tue Sep 27, 2011 6:32 pm

Hey everyone;

I've been thinking about this for quite a while. For a while I thought 2012 was going to be the year I finally do an ACE con but after seeing what Canada's Wonderland was adding I've been listening to Rush, Barenaked Ladies and Brian Adams as well as watching a ton of Trailer Park Boys like nuts. So 2012 Negative-G goes international when we head on up to Canada!

Image

Here's the tentative plan. Like this year we take the trip over Memorial Day Weekend (I want to do holiday weekends because I can get 6 days off of work but only use two of my limited vacation days). We drive up north on a Wednesday night and do Canada's Wonderland (and anything else in the area)on Thursday and Friday. Saturday do Marine Land and Martin's Fantasy Island over by Niagara Falls. Sunday hit Conneaut Lake Park and Waldameer. Monday do Memphis Kiddie Park and Cedar Point and then head on home.

So that would be 1 terra, 2 giga, 2 hypers, 9 woodies and at least forty-five different coasters. Interested?

Let me know what you think and we'll start planning our next adventure.

Have Fun

If you start it the weekend before, there is the ACE event at Cedar Point. ERT!!

I can't do the weekend before as the trip would cost me half of my vacation time instead of just two days. Until I hit the 7 year mark when I get 3 weeks off a year I'm kind of stuck.

So does this mean I can plan a credit whoring day all around the Toronto area?

What is interesting is that I have been roughly planning a trip almost identical to this, just hadn't figured out when I was going to do it. Then ACE scheduled CP for Spring Con and I thought that was my chance.

Of course Spring Con is 5/18-20, so the question is can I stay in the area through the entire next week. Assuming everything stays the path at work I just might be able to do that but probably will not know for sure until after the new year.

During last night's chat Paul and I chatted a bit about the trip since we are going to be in his back yard and he brought up a few things that we should consider. First off there are several credits around Toronto including the rides at Centerville and Ontario Place as well as the last remaining plastic coaster at Wild Water and Wheels. Plastic you ask? Check this out.

Man that thing is Ghetto Fabulous!

Oh also Marineland is insanely expensive (like +$45) for a kiddie and an arrow looper. Thirty miles East is Darien Lake with Ride of Steel, Predator, Viper, OCC Motocoaster and a few others. How about we do that instead?

Oh so far we have Bratman, Mikeau and Kidcoaster interested how about the rest of you?

No Negative-G takeover for Con! WTF! This sounds like a great trip, but I don't know if I can swing it. My big three trips for next year are; Spring Con, Coaster Con and Preservation Con. Sounds great, Have fun.

That sounds awesome! I've always wanted to go back to Wonderland since I was 16. I hear they added some coasters since then. ;-)

Hey everyone;

While working on my Little Amerricka page (hopefully be up tomorrow) I was looking up some info on the Herschell Company and I stumbled on the Herschell Carousel Factory Museum which is located right on our track for the trip. Anyone interested in checking it out?

Here's a link to the Museum's website.

That may be a little tight if we are trying to do that, Darien Lake, and MFI the same day....

Darien Lake and MFI are doable in the same day... in fact when ACE does western NY, they do the two in the same day. We can start off at Darien Lake at opening... and then make our way out of the park at about 4ish and to MFI for 5. Why at 5? Thats when they have discounted evening admission.... about $12.
