Six Flags 2015

Post by Paul Drabek » Tue Aug 26, 2014 8:58 pm

The word from Coaster-Net is that they poked through SF's website and here is what the names for the 2015 additions are:

SFOT & SFSTL: Battle for Metropolis. (Dark rides)
SFNE: Wicked Cyclone (RMC reworking of Cyclone)
SFMM: Twisted Colossus (RMC reworking of Colossus)
SFGAM: 40 Seasons (A celebration of the parks history I guess)
SFFT: Batman the Ride (S&S Free Spin)
SFOG: Jokers Chaos (Larson Super Loop)
SFA: Bourbon St Fireball (Larson Super Loop)
SFGrAd: Looping Dragon (Larson Super Loop)
SFDK: Dare Devil Chaos (Larson super Loop)
SFM: Sky Screamer

So it sounds like the big winners are SFMM, SFNE, SFSTL, SFOT and SFFT.

We will see more on Thursday. Anyone have any idea when it will be broadcast and where?

Are they doing a single broadcast this year? I know that SFGAm and SFFT have announcement parties scheduled at the parks and the two events are several hours apart. I'm wondering if the parks aren't going to announce individually throughout the day this time.

SFFT's is in the late afternoon- saving the best for last, maybe?

Super Loop seems like kind of an odd choice for Six Flags' new "install 'em everywhere" ride. The Sky Screamers at least had the height going for them even though they weren't that thrilling: this seems like kind of a step down.

It seems a huge step down, actually.
While the rides can be fun and have at least as high a capacity as a swing ride, pretty much every second-rate parking lot carnival outfit has a Super Loop in it already.
I think it sorta tarnishes the image of SF (or any static park) being a step above the kind of stuff you see in the lot outside Walmart.

ALSO, I'm going to venture a guess that SFMM is getting a Sky Screamer and that Twisted Colossus is the 2016 attraction. That doesn't mean they won't announce it on Thursday, but I think it's too big a project to finish by next year. As far as I know, they aren't even on site yet, while the much smaller Cyclone at SFNE has begun work in earnest already.

Yeah, I know there are drastically different winters, but still...

The weird thing is, I remember saying something about a Metropolis dark ride somewhere on here. I am so glad that there are Superman rides for families and thrill seekers.

Hopefully Six Flags bought the 32 person Giant Loops over the 24 person Giant Loop as they will need that extra 8 person per ride capacity.

Doesn't sound like it. I think they bought the 24 person Giant Loops. I think they got one of those buy three get one for free deal.

Probably more like, buy 3, get 10 cents off the 4th

The Twisted Colossus looks amazing! I believe they are making 2 tracks one, so we are looking at a long ride. It is sweet!

Ok I am stoked about the Battle for Metropolis at SFOT and SFSTL.

I wish the guns shot nice visible lasers like that but I don't think that is going to happen.

Twisted Colossus at SFMM looks sweet!

Batman The Ride at SFFT will be a blast.

I am curious if they are going to have two trains on it?

Wicked Cyclone at SFNE is going to unseat Bizarro as that parks BIG ride!

Although calling it the "worlds smoothest ride" is a bit of a stretch marketing wise. I guess since the Cyclone was quite rough they had to overcome that objection to the old ride.

Here's a video of one of the chains new non coaster coasters.

Less than impressed with that carny ride. Still I am totally excited for SFStL's new dark ride.

"World's smoothest coaster" - yes, absolutely they were trying to shed the old Cyclone image.
The Medusa Steel coaster ad promised "Mas Suave!" as well.

When NTG opened, I don't know how many times I heard groups of people go "let's head for the Giant!" followed by someone in the group looking at the OBVIOUSLY DIFFERENT coaster and saying, "hell no, I rode that last time we came here and it beat me up!"

Perhaps giving it a name so similar to the old one isn't a good idea after all.

Here is a great walk through from a guy from Sally talking about their Justice League Alien Invasion ride at Warner Brothers Movie World. I think the Battle for Metropolis is going to be like this.

I always cringe when I watch those artist rendered coasters, because they remind me of my old Nolimits designs.
