Thunderbird at Holiday World

Post by Spencerman » Thu Jul 24, 2014 9:53 pm

Holiday World is opening the world's first launched B&M wingrider coaster! It will feature a 60 mph launch in 3.6 seconds, an Immelmann, a vertical loop, various turns and swoops crossing over the Voyage, a zero-g roll, a carousel with a headchopper, and then an inline twist with a headchopper. I will provide some links below. I really enjoy all of the scenery and effects put into this ride.

I'm in the north woods of Wisconsin with Internet that seems to be as slow as dial up but what I have been able to see looks pretty sweet. Needless to say I will be heading back to Santa Claus next year.

Kay and I will be getting season passes again. If I'm correct that means I get a preview weekend of the coaster.

Color me excited.

As hugely disappointed I am in this ride, I will say that the longer queues will be for the left side, as it's the only one that has interaction with the barn in the last section, plus the scraping-the-ground turn just before it.

Another B&M, another cut/paste job of elements that already exist on dozens of other coasters. At least there's a twisty airtime hill before the barn turn and a couple of over banked turns early on. At least those are new.

Cpt,
You just don't get it!

It is more then just the ride. It is the whole Holiday World experience. Not to mention "Will Power". I was at the announcement and I can truly say it was the best coaster related event I have EVER been to. I can understand that you may not be as familiar as many of us with Holiday World and why TB is not just another B & M! It is about vision, family, a park that wants to be the best and most unique that it can be. It is about legacy!!!!

This post may have pissed you off, but I am not going to apologize.

Respectfully,
Brian

My only beef with the ride will be the massive walk back to it and the lack of any other rides/attractions between the swinging ship and Thunderbird all the way back there. At the very least for 2016 they need to fill in that area with 2-3 good flat rides.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, Paul. I have no idea on what would fit in the area, though.

Waterboy, I'm not pissed at your post. I'm glad you're excited about the ride and I did appreciate the "Will Power" bit.

...and I also understand the "whole Holiday World experience" which is one of the reasons that I think this massive, high-tech, bright orange thing is going to take this park from one that feels like a mom-n-pop park to one that has lost its charm. Maybe they'll pull it off without ruining the feeling of the place. I certainly hope so.
HW is one of my very favorite parks and I don't want to see it get all chain park-y on us.

I cant wait to get back to HW! I think the addition of Thunderbird is the first stepping stone to HW becoming the next Dollywood very soon. I cant wait to see what else is to come! Also, I agree with Paul that the back area of Thanksgiving really does need some filling in. A splash battle would be a perfect addition for the area, and maybe a Screamin Swing.

Hell, they keep going back that far, a old style people mover ala Cedar Point would work as well ;)

Skyride FTW. And make it run at least a half hour past park closing to help those on the last T-bird and Voyage rides haul their asses back up to the top of the hill.
