A Zombie Themed Dark Ride for SFSTL?

Post by Paul Drabek » Sun Apr 13, 2014 1:25 pm

Hey all:

Word around SFSTL for a while has been that the aging Scooby-Do ride is going to be replaced next year with a new dark ride. Yesterday the word around the park was that Scooby Do was going to be turned into a zombie themed dark ride. So who knows maybe next year we will be dealing with herds of walkers and scoring head shot after head shot.

I hope the guns are all crossbows so I can go all Daryl Dixon on the ride. ;-)

If they theme it I would hope that The Walking Dead would be used, but I know since Universal uses it, we won't get that, but it's still cool.

Not very happy about the Scooby Doo rumors, but I understand the park has to do something with the aging ride. Zombies, sure sounds fun, but not for my 3 year old who loves the Scooby Doo ride. Being one of the few Scooby rides I can think of that's close to me it would be a shame to see it taken out. The Scooby Doo ride was always unique to me in that it had most of the major villains from the original show along with some cool effects. Whatever the case may be for the ride SFStL needs to take a cue from their sister park in Georgia and make something that is truly SFStL unique.

Maybe a ride through Metropolis! A big flood started by Lex Luthor, and you observe Superman stopping it! That would be sweet!

That ride has been re themed more times then it's sister rides at Six Flags over Texas and Six Flags over Georiga

Injuin Joes' Cave
Time Tunnel {no relation to the scifi television series]
Legends of the Dark Castle
Castaway Kids
Scooby Doo

Seems like no theme ever works very well.

Scooby is a great ride. I don't know why they want to change the theme. The park even says it's one of their most popular rides. My guess is corporate mismanagement thinks the ride is outdated. Don't get me wrong, a state of the art upgrade would be sweet, but I can't see the chain sinking that much money into it. Also, I rode monster plantation and though Scooby was much better. To me, that ride is a local classic and I'm glad the park kept the theming, but as an outsider, I just didn't think it was anything special.

I bet maintenance wise Scooby has to be a nightmare and that's why it is going.

Something new is taking Scooby's spot and they have already began teasing it.

With the "Swampland for Rent Or Lease" sign maybe it won't be some generic superhero shoot them up ride? Maybe it will be zombie themed.

My gut tells me that the new ride will not live up to any sort of hype, especially with the demise of the water element. I'll bet you a used boomerang that I'm right. Then again, you can have it even if I'm wrong.

Sadly Greg you are probably right. IMHO SFStL needs real additions to the park and not just replacing rides that have reached the end of their expectancy or a used ride.
