What Coaster Will Be The Sleeper Hit Of 2006

Post by Paul Drabek » Thu Feb 16, 2006 6:44 pm

We all know that the big coasters for 2006 like The Voyage or El Toro are going to thrill our socks off but what coaster is going to be the sleeper hit of the year?

Kentucky Rumbler looks like it will be lots of fun!

I heard some people were hoping for Expedition Everest, but its mainly about the scenery, the ride is So-So

I have seen the video of that ride. I does not look too bad but you are right about the theming.

Wow Andy @ Brian you all responded before I could finish the poll.

For me I have to choose the Knoebels Flying Turns just barely over the Kentucky Rumbler as sleeper hit of the year because there hasn't been an old school Flying Turns built since the 1930's. Plus after watching video of the one at Riverview which Knoebels is modeling theirs after it is going to be one heck of a ride.

Have Fun

I agree with Paul on the Flying Turns.
Something about their design that intrigues me.

I knew you had told me about this one, but I had totally forgotten about it... It will be a "slammin' ride" if I do say so... but I give my vote to Voyage

Can someone explain to me the exact definition of a "Sleeper hit". Because I thought that a "sleeper hit" meant a coaster that got good ratings and publicity by word of mouth rather than over priced advertising.

My thoughts on what a sleeper hit is this:

A coaster that doesn't have a whole bunch of buzz about it going into the season (The Voyage has insane buzz about it so that takes it out of "sleeper hit" status for me) but really blows people away and gets them extremely excited by the end of the year.

The Raven was the perfect example of a sleeper hit...the attitude before opening was "ok, some small park that no one has ever heard of in Indiana is building a wooden coaster" and then when people rode it the word quickly became..."OMG you have to ride this coaster"!

That is why I chose Kentucky Rumbler. Not many people have heard of Beech Bend, and it has a very interesting layout with what look to be some great elements. El Toro and The Voyage have too much buzz to be considered a sleeper hit. Expedition Everest has some publicity and as the year moves on the publicity grows (the Yeti Vision game for example). So I think that there will be much positive and negative buzz about that one going into the summer season. The Flying Turns is second on my list of sleeper hits, for reasons Paul has stated above.

No Brian there are no "hanging chads" here and we're not like Chicago where you are encouraged to "vote early, vote often". Here we have one vote per person so you better be sure of your choice.

Have Fun

SFOG is building Goliath and it is a B&M machine (my Fav new Steel). You cannot beet the shear freedom provided by a B&M Hyper. Nitro at SFGADV is an awesome critter with airtime, steep drops, and intense rises that pull you like a shuttle Launch. Goliath is a machine designed by the same twisted genius's that have been stunning the Amusement world every since their debut with Flashback, AKA Z-Force.
No one is giving them the credit they deserve in the Hyper arena but I predict this New coaster will cement their dominance in the coaster kingdom. SFOG is the perfect vehicle to give them the exposure of this particular type of coaster.

This image demostrates the shear freedom provided by their trains which really shows the emphasis of mobility unlike the Intamin squeze and Bind seats (Millenium Force CP, Superman SFA). The B&M design will speed dispatch which should make the wait much less.[/img]http://www.rcdb.com/ig1106.htm?picture=1
