The Schafers Head off to Silverwood 8-20 8-24

Post by MattS1974 » Tue Aug 19, 2014 10:17 pm

So It's 9:00 pm Tuesday night... The car is packed. I'm checked in for my flight to Spokane to catch up with the family... So what is a guy supposed to do? Oh I know start a trip report that he was supposed to do last year but totally failed on it. So this year I will do better... With Pictures of everything... PDX Carpet... check (if you really want to know why then do an internet search for it PDX Carpet and realize Portlandia is the truth more than fiction.) Airplanes... Check.... If visible a Pic of Mount Hood... Then the daunting rush hour drive from Spokane to Coeur D'Alene ID Costco for a Hot Pizza (one of the better cheap pizza's out there) then up to Silverwood R.V. park with the beautiful Silverwood as the backdrop... Only bad part is no internet... I will keep notes and have some pics to post later. So until next time....

This trip is one of many firsts for me... First time going through the new TSA procedures at the airport. Really guys... Holding our hands up like we are going to be arrested??? Seriously??? Maybe driving 6 hours is worth it... To flying in a turbo prop plane... couple of thoughts there... You do get shaken up like you do on a wooden coaster... Except I know I will live after riding in a coaster. But Bombardier Q400 planes do take off much quicker than anything Boeing or Airbus has... I've never loaded or unloaded off a plane as fast as I did. 5 minutes on 5 minutes off... 80 people... take that bigger planes ;)... I know what you really want though... Pics...

Even got my 7 year old girl to ride a big coaster "Tremors".... Unfortunately remember those clouds from earlier... Those clouds turned into a thunder and lightening storm which ended our first day at Silverwood... 1 Krazy Coaster for my 51st credit 1 time on Tremors... Ouch... but can't blame anyone but mother nature on that

Friday started just like Thursday ended... lots and lots of clouds and rain. So much so that I was thinking I wouldn't even ride another coaster on this trip and was looking for the nearest liquor store... Like Paul I'm not much of a fan of water and that was todays part of Silverwood... Clouds and water means very cold time... My 9 year old had the time of his life because there was no wait on anything at Boulder Beach (The Water park) Then all of the sudden there was an "Eye in the storm"... and the eye got bigger and my hopes got bigger... So big that I got 3 rides on Tremors. 1 ride on Timber Terror (BTW which is was under rated... I think is on par with Tremors but in a different way... Timber Terror is an airtime machine compared to Tremors which is more aggressive) and a walk on to Aftershock... I could have re ridden Aftershock but once is enough head banging for a guy to handle... Then it was time to catch up with the family and friends and spend the rest of the time at Silverwood with them...

I know my coaster count is not that impressive 4 rides on Tremors 1 on Timber Terror and 1 on Aftershock (Yes I could have also walked onto Corkscrew... But I don't need to be corkscrewed that much... This wasn't a coaster run trip... this was a Family trip... and Saturday was "Culture day" Being from "Portlandia" I thought i knew culture... Trust me I was wrong... I'll let the Pictures explain ;)

So the rest of my pics are "Illegal" pics... I happen to wake up earlier than most people I guess... There is a tunnel from the R.V. Park/parking lot to the actual theme park... and they are supposed to keep the gate closed to the tunnel when the park is closed... well the gate wasn't closed when i walked through and took the next shots...

So all good things must come to an end. And this trip is one of them. But what this trip did do is grow friendships with people who haven't been to a theme park in many years, realize that, yes Disney is fun... But there are better (and cheaper) places to be... and grow as families, and friends. Which this hobby is about isn't it? Ok enough of the babble... you want pic's... I know I know ;)

Homeward bound... If you haven't seen the Columbia River Gorge... You need to drive it to understand it... It's like the Grand Canyon but with trees as you go along... my pic's don't do it justice.
