SFoG Opening Weekend 3.7.10

Post by Hikaru-chan » Mon Mar 08, 2010 9:42 pm

I'm not much for writing reports but here's a quick overview of my day.

I got to the park around 10:40ish to a completely quiet park. The coasters wouldn't open unitl 11:30ish due to low temperatures. Waited for Goliath to open and got to ride on the second train of the day.

Walked to the back of the park to an empty Gotham City to Mindbender and a newly painted Batman. From there I went pass the tempoary Gunshow stage to Monster Mansion. Passed by the re-construction of a Papa Johns and walked into the ghost town of Lickskillet. All the builds look brand spanking new and Wheelie has a fresh coat of paint.

Skipped Ninja, it was still testing or something anyway. Missed GASM, there was a ride-a-thon so there was no rides. Headed to Superman, horray for updated signage! Rode the bumper cars as usual. Went back to the front of the park to ride Acrophobia and Cyclone but both were closed. Had a late lunch at Papa Johns, horray for personal pizzas instead of just slices.

Went back up the hill to ride Scorcher. Then went back to Mindbender, Batman and Goliath for more rides before leaving.

I only took 80 or so photos, so if I don't post something you want to see just tell me.

Fun...we were both in the park that day. I'm surprised that you didn't talk about how horrific the day was. For me, Saturday was a rotten day, but Sunday was significantly better. I'll be writing a trip report soon.

I'm quite sure any day in summer has the potental to be 3x as a worse as opening weekend was. What was truly so horrific about it? The rides opening late? No problem for me since there was no crowd to make waits horrible. One train operations? It happens every year for, at least, opening weekend.

On Saturday the crowds were more than sufficient to be adding an extra train to some of the rides, such as Goliath and Superman. There was absolutely no reason for those rides to have over an hour wait with the light crowds that were there. Plus the marathon on GASM was handled terribly - on Saturday it was a giant mess and then on Sunday they just closed it. Maybe not a big deal for locals, but for those of us who drove 8+ hours to get there, it was more than a little annoying. Not to mention we had problems with parking twice on Saturday, and our friends (also from 8+ hours from the park) had the same problem on Sunday.

I was just honestly shocked at the poor management of the park on opening weekend.
Current coaster count: 304
