PTR Mt Olympus 8-11-11

Postby tribar » Mon Jul 09, 2012 8:55 pm

Went to Mt Olympus today. A decent park but it sure isn't Disney or Cedar Point

Hades was a piece of crap. About 10x worse than Mean Streak. Still it provided a couple great moments of airtime. Pegasus wasn't anything special. Not to rough but basically no airtime. Zeus wasn't nearly as rough as people said it was. And i rode in the second to last car on a nearly empty t met.rain. And Cyclops was rough but also was full of airtime. Couldn't find Opa but i probably would have hated it just like i hate RC. And Litte Titans i was too tall.

Anyway onto the pictures

Took the pictue too late :D

More of Hades

Image

Hades goes under the parking lot and over into the section

Image

And into this section

Then it goes back under and goes over the smaller hill right next to the largest drop.

Image

I think this is Cyclops but it might be Zeus. Either way you can walk right up to coaster track at several points in the park

Image

Wow this is such a unique policy. Walmart and Target should consider something like this.

Image

That sign is pretty much the only thing keeping people out of here. There were a lot of workers around this area but still maybe a gate would be a smart idea

Image

Another view of how close the track is

Image

Zeus had a full queue. That's right all the way down the stairs. Probably wouldn't be more than 20-25 minutes. On a side note i took this on the way out. We hit this first thing with a nearly empty station.

Image

Fun Go Carts. Too bad they had about a half hour wait. Really Slow moving line plus the constant smell of gas = :? .

Image

Cyclops

Image

That breath taking drop

Image

The best part of the ride is quickly followed by the worst with a really rough section of track.

Image

Only Bathroom i ever saw in the park

Image

Zeus, Hades and Cyclops

Image

This sign cost me a credit

Trojan Horse

Pegasus

and i'll wrap this up with a picture of the entrance to Hotel Rome

Final Counts
Hades- 1
Cyclops- 1
Pegasus- 1
Zeus- 1
Poseidon Go Carts- 1

I'll be visiting in a little over a month so I can give you my opinions of the park. I don't mind rough wooden coasters, in fact I enjoy them.

Opa is in the indoor amusement park.

OMG...Tommy Bartlett's Robot World!!! I'm curious if anyone actually goes to that dated POS attraction anymore?

Nice pics but I have to disagree with your assessment of Hades...yes it's rough but that's an insult to the Gravity Group by saying it's worse than Mean Streak.

Have Fun

I don't think i've experienced Mean Streak at it's worse. If both rides were smooth as silk than Hades would easily be the better one as Mean Streak is forceless. Hades did have loads of airtime that kept this from being one of least favorite coasters. If you want a really bad woodie go to Hershey and ride Wildcat. That's a really bad ride!

Great pictures! The "you break it we consider it sold" thing is really lame and says a lot about the people who run this place. Not to mention, they cannot force you (legally) to pay for something you break. Don't quote me on that one, though.

The park is *THEE* example of how great a park could be if it were run by people that gave at least the smallest crap. Indiana Beach is sadly catching up.

I rode Hades on media day 2005 about 30 times, it was a top 5 coaster for me. I've been back several times, but have only ridden Hades 3 times since 2005. It's hard to watch the one train go out with empty seats with a very long line. A 20 person train; one train on a mile long coaster. When asked if they would ever get more trains for their coaster, the owner said "no - we don't EVER want a chance of having a collision." Perfectly reasonable.

The saving grace of the park on my last visit (last August) is Cyclops. It was always my favorite coaster there! Even the tiny 40' first drop is killer. That sort of air time on a coaster with PTC ratchet bars is mostly a thing of the past. If they keep letting frayed and broken seat belts go out on Cyclops, it may not last long. I would be very sad to see that nugget get lost to a "PTC re-do." The track was in horrible shape last year, but still managed to be a great ride.

*I just had a great thought. Could you imagine Mt. Olympus run by the Holiday World folks? Mmmmm....
