2017 Wood Poll Results

Remember Mitch Hawker's annual poll? It was different in that rather than adding up total points from each ballot, it looked at each possible pair of coasters and asked, "of the voters who have ridden both of these coasters, which one did they prefer?" Mitch stopped doing the poll in 2013, but ElloC...

CDX Lego coaster

Did anyone else get one of the Cyclone Lego-compatible kits? I found them to be pretty high quality and a great building set. The trains are incredibly low-friction as they roll, making it easy to do long layouts. They're 100% Lego-compatible and the fit is tight. This could be conceived as a bad th...

Mitch Hawker- style poll is LIVE

Remember the Mitch Hawker poll? It used a ranked-pairs algorithm to determine the winner, effectively eliminating the bias that most polls have where a coaster gets mondo props for being well-ridden. You know, like when MilForce used to win the Golden Tickets every year. Anyway, since Mitch quit doi...

Re: Lightning Rod (Dollywood) review

Monster at Iowa? Loved it! The "omega loop" or whatever they call that hang time festival is amazing. I'm planning on doing an article on that one as well, plus one on Storm Chaser at KK. I just need to find some time. Just rode the Brandauer (single rail) alpine coaster that just opened in Revelsto...

Lightning Rod (Dollywood) review

Just got done with the USA2016 trip with European Coaster Club. 104 coasters in 14 days(!) It was NUTS, in a good way. My top ten got shaken up a bit, with Storm Chaser entering the list, Prowler moving up two spots (nighttime rides, ZOMG), Rampage re-entering the list after a decade.... and Voyage ...

Re: ZDT Switchback ride review

I'm spreading it far and wide. The owners have pretty much sunk everything into this and if it doesn't pay off for them, it's going to be bad. If it DOES pay off, it could get a lot of other small parks to think about getting one of these. I'd have no problem whatsoever with this becoming the next V...

ZDT Switchback ride review

Got invited by ZDT's Amusement Park to come sample their new Switchback coaster. After more than 60 rides (Chad from Gravity Group says it was close to 100, but I think that's a bit inflated), I managed to pull myself together enough to write the ElloCoaster review: https://ello.co/ellocoaster/post/...

Re: Merry Christmas To My Negative-G Family

Merry Christmas to Paul and all y'all, eh?

All the errands are done, my last package of stuff finally arrived (it was stuck in customs for a week) today, and things are winding down.

Just waiting for the snow to fall.

Re: Doing Anything Different During The Offseason?

The neighbour wants to do the bobsled at Olympic Park, so I'll be doing that in January.

(LOL at my Macbook's GPS knowing I'm in Canada and 'correcting' my spelling of "neighbor")

Re: Favorite Hypers/Gigas

I can handle life without Whataburger. Yeah, I miss it, but so many other things are higher on the list of things I crave right now... like free chips and salsa at Mexican restaurants. Last place we went charged $6 for C&S and it wasn't even salsa, it was pico de gallo. The food was good, though... ...

Re: Favorite Hypers/Gigas

Phantom's Revenge is likely at the bottom of my list. I want to like it, but all three times I've ridden it, the double-down next to the end brakes kills my back and I'm in pain the rest of the day. Agreed about Skyrush. If you're the kind of person who loves that batshit-crazy intense, everything-c...

Re: Kentucky Kingdom sneak preview

Someone linked to this article on TPR shortly after I posted it.... I wondered how long it would remain on there, because neither Paul nor I are exactly loved by the Blobb. Since the poster is a Club TPR member, it would've been too obvious to just delete it... so it got edited slightly so the link ...
