When we last were at Six Flags St. Louis on opening day Sky
Screamer was still being worked on so we didn't get the chance to try
it. Then we were invited to try it out during a commercial shoot
but work was crazy and I had to skip it to work some overtime.
Since then we've been busy with the end of school and the Negative-G
2011 Road Trip so getting to Six Flags to try out Sky Screamer kind of
took a back burner.
This Thursday we had to go to St. Louis to pick up a friend who was
visiting so before heading to the airport Bond and I headed into the
park for an hour to give Sky Screamer a quick try.
Sky Screamer replaces the old Riverview Racer swing ride. Sky
Screamer's tower sits right where Riverview Racer did and reuses it's
station. Thankfully though they added some nice air conditioning
to the queue to help cool everyone while they're waiting to ride.
The old bar across your waist and chain between your legs like the
Riverview Racer ride had for a restraint just doesn't cut it when you're
going up over two hundred feet in the air. So Sky Screamer has a
seat belt (that you cannot unlock by yourself) across your chest, the
bar across your lap and a locking mechanism between your legs to keep
you nice and secure.
The unloading/loading process was kind of slow as the ride stops
circling and lowering about fifty feet above the ground before finally
lowering to the ground and the ride operators were kind of slow checking
restraints which made the wait that much longer. It's still early
in the season so hopefully they speed up the process as they get used to
it.
