Six Flags Great America
Gurnee, Illinois
Summer 2009

As I'm writing this it's January 2009. We've had endless
weeks of snow, cold, some more snow then below zero temperatures that
freeze you to the bone. Cocooned in my house I long for summer.
I long for the sun on my face and a warm breeze blowing through what
little hair that I have left. I want a nice summer day with
friends, family and a bunch of coasters.
So I decided to delve back into my gigabytes of photos and try to get
back, at least in memory to summer time at Six Flags Great America.
The Demon has been a staple at Six Flags Great America for three
decades now and every year I hear a rumor that it's going to be torn
down. My question back to those folks are if Six Flags is planning
on removing it why did they give the black train this amazing paint job
this year?
We ended up heading to Six Flags Great America a couple of times this
year as both Bond and I really love it. On one of our visits we
met up with my sister, niece and sister-in law over at the Hometown Fun
Machine.
It used to be that you could tell if Great America was
going to be packed or not based on if the Hometown Fun Machine was
running. Being kind of out of the way they would only run it on
busy days. Thankfully Six Flags new management decided to have all
rides in operation whenever they're open so we can get our Scrambler fix
on.
The Hometown Fun Machine and Triple Play are tucked back in the corners
of the Hometown Square section of the park so many people miss them.
Now I'm not a big spinning ride fan so I have avoided Triple Play since
I was a kid figuring I'd get sick on it but my sister-in-law Heloisa
pulled me onto it and I have to say that it's awesome fun. I
tried to get Bond on it at the end of the day but as we sprinted up to
it the ride operator had just pressed dispatch for the final ride of the
night. Oh well there's next year.
