Six Flags Great America opened as one of three planned Marriott's Great America amusement parks. Two of these identical parks opened in 1976 (the one near Washington D.C. never got past the planning stage) and in the mid 1980's Six Flags purchased this park and it became Six Flags Great America.

This was one of the amusement parks that I grew up at and it always will have a special place in my heart. Besides my sentimental love for this park it has a world class lineup of coasters and is one of the best parks in the Midwest.
