I have been wanting to get to Silver
Dollar City in Branson, MO for several years now. Earlier in the
season my friend Greg in St. Louis asked if I'd be up for a weekend at
Six Flags St. Louis, Silver Dollar City and Celebration City. I of
course said yes but had no idea when I'd work it into my schedule and
budget. Eventually everything came together and the two of us headed west
very early on a Sunday morning.
After driving past hundreds of
billboards for the largest Precious Moments store, Merrimac Caverns, Jesse
James Wax Museum and Yakov Smirnoff (What a country we live in where he can
still find work with his cold war shtick) we pulled into one of Silver
Dollar City's parking lots. A quick tram ride later and a stop at the
ticket booths to get our three day passes (they were about $20 cheaper than
a 1 day pass) we were in the park about thirty minutes before the stated
opening time.
Having a long list of rides that we
wanted to hit we immediately set out for our first stop which was Powder
Keg. One the way there Silver Dollar City's scenery just sucked us
into the 1880's Ozark mountain town that the park is themed after.
It took us about five minutes of
walking down and up hills to get to Powder Keg and much to our surprise
even though it was twenty-five minutes before opening the ride was up
and running for us.
