Old Chicago: The Rides Page One
Old Chicago was the worlds first totally enclosed and climate controlled amusement park which meant that you could ride coasters all year long even throughout the long and cold Chicago winters.
This is the first view of the park that you would be greeted by after passing through the mall. The park was in a sunken area about 50 feet below the mall so you had to go down a spiral ramp to get to the entrance.
Before entering the park you had to get a ticket of course. At Old Chicago you could either pay by the ride or pay one price. Admission to the park without rides was $1.50 and an all day ride pass cost $3.95 for ages 3-11 and $4.95 for 12 and over. The price may seem a little low but we are talking about 20 years ago.
This was Old Chicago's premiere attraction the Chicago Loop. The name Chicago Loop comes from an area of downtown Chicago that is ringed by elevated trains and is called "the loop".
