The second stop on Greg and my
two day, four park trip up north to Minnesota and Wisconsin was The Park
at Mall of America.
If you don't know the Mall of
America is a monstrous monument to consumerism that has an indoor amusement
park at its center. The amusement park used to be known as Camp Snoopy
while it was managed by Knott's Berry Farm and later Cedar Fair. A
year or so ago that management contract expired and the mall decided to make
a go of it on their own as The Park at Mall of America.
The Park at Mall of America is my
second indoor amusement park and the first one to get it right. You
see I grew up a town over from Bollingbrook, IL which had
Old Chicago, which is now defunct. It
was a mall ringed with specialty shops and an amusement park in the middle
of it like the Park at Mall of America.
Since Mall of America and the
Park at Mall of America are both in their fifteenth year and doing quite
well and Old Chicago only lasted a third of that time it's no stretch to
say that they're doing things right in Minnesota.
