After gawking at the Bullet a little more we headed back to check over
the car sitting in the parking lot. The last time I really
got to climb all around a coaster car and really look under it when I
was a kid and Old Chicago; which was then under construction put out the
lead car for the Chicago Loop to promote the park. I felt like a
kid then and now as I was off on a three day coaster weekend with some
fantastic friends.
Oh, by the way I always hear at least once some one in line saying that
coaster cars can fly off the track. No they can't. As you
can see, even tough a bit rusty from the salt water spray the Boardwalk
Bullet has three sets of wheels. One that goes on top of the rail,
one on the side rail and one that goes under to lock it onto the coaster
track. So while you may feel like it's going to come off of the
track when you are propelled into the air it really isn't.
It's kind of hard to miss the Boardwalk Bullet as it's the biggest thing
around but still the Kemah Boardwalk decked it out with this cool sign.
Since we were there about an hour before opening we got to watch
maintenance walk the track getting the Boardwalk Bullet ready to open
for the day.
Well I'm glad I'm tall enough to ride as I'd have hated to make the 12
hour drive down here for nothing.
