With all the years of neglect you can
expect some of the structure to have collapsed. This is some of the
track that leads to the previous turnaround. Most modern wood coasters
are not painted because the wood is treated to keep it good for a long time
but older coasters needed to be painted to help keep the wood from rot and
bugs. The majority of coasters were painted white but I guess there
was a sale on yellow paint when they did the Wildcat.
The foliage got pretty heavy under the
coaster. Look close and you may see some track.
I wish it would have been a dry day when I was there
because I'd love to be able to climb around under the Wildcat a bit more. I think
this is my favorite Wildcat picture. I love looking up the hill with all the trees
intertwined with it.
One thing I discovered wandering around
under the Wildcat was that it did not go straight to the lift out of the
station. It dives down into what looks like a tunnel and circles
around a bit under the structure before the lift. It was really sad to
see such a great looking coaster in such bad shape.
Unfortunately I never got a chance to ride it but if anyone has any point of
view video of it I'd love to see it.
