Holiday World & Splashin' Safari Santa Claus, Indiana 2006 Construction Update August 6, 2005 Page One
Construction has been progressing on Holiday World's largest expansion ever. From the road outside of the park one can easily see piles of metal ready to be assembled into a huge rollercoaster. It's like a giant erector set. Looking from over by the Eagle's Flight work is progressing including clearing quite a bit of brush. Earlier in the week while I was working I got a call from Carrie who saw a huge crane from the road off in the trees. I haven't seen it but I'm certain there's quite a bit of work going on back where I can't see. Does anyone have an plane (I'm Flight Simulator certified and have flown in reality a single and double engine planes...the problem is landing which I'm not good at.) or a hot air balloon that I can borrow to get a few shots from the air?
I do remember a conversation with Will Koch about four years ago where we were chatting about coasters. He asked me what I'd like to see at Holiday World next and I told him that I'd like to see a twisted version of an out and back coaster with a terrain turnaround back in the hills north of Splashin' Safari. He just grinned and said that it was an interesting idea. I'm not taking credit for the Voyage's layout because I'm certain that Will had already had an idea of the park's next coaster after The Legend opened. After viewing the video of The Voyage's layout again and again and again about a hundred times since the announcement I have to say that it's everything that I imagined that I'd want for the park and much much more. I am most definitely counting down the days until it's opening.
There's a nice new pile of dirt down in the valley. My guess is that they are starting to dig down for some of The Voyage's five different tunnels and that dirt has to go somewhere.
